Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown Revealed, Developed By KT Racing

It's been nine years since the last game.

Test Drive Unlimited

At yesterday’s Nacon Connect, KT Racing announced that they’re developing the third game in the Test Drive Unlimited series. It’s called TDU Solar Crown, and its currently in the early stages of development. Check out the teaser trailer below.

As its still in the early stages of development, details are thin on the ground about when the game will launch, or what platforms it’ll launch on. That said, KT Racing have said that the game will retain the “DNA of the series”, which amounts to “beautiful cars and the joy of driving around a luxurious island world recreated at 1:1 scale.”

Players will be competing in the eponymous Solar Crown event, a racing competition with “mysterious stakes”, which is an odd way to market a racing game honestly. Sounds like you’ll get killed if you lose. Either way, you’ll be seeking to raise your status in the community, earning customisation options for both your cars and in-game avatar. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will also feature the same engine featured in the WRC series, along with a freedom to progress through the game however you see fit.

Test Drive Unlimited was one of the first racing games that blended fairly realistic physics and racing with open world exploration, a formula that’s now been perfected by the Forza Horizon series. Solar Crown will have to be something special to match up to Playground Games’ incredible series.
