SEGA have announced that Team Sonic Racing, the latest kart racer being developed by Sumo Digital, has been delayed until May 21st, 2019. The game was originally scheduled to release this December, but has been pushed back significantly to make sure that the game is the best it can possibly be.

As you might imagine from the name, Team Sonic Racing puts you in a squad of 3, with success and failure determined by your overall time rather than the individual. You can gift items between teammates, using drafting techniques to slingshot yourself to the front of the pack and use an ultimate technique to really break the speed limits.

On paper, it sounds like a lot of fun, but we found during a demo at EGX that the team mechanics got in the way more than they added to the fun. If this delay means that Sumo Digital can improve friendly AI and make the experience feel more rewarding, we’ll be all for it.
