If you’re wondering what the next Master Level is in DOOM Eternal, it’s been revealed in just about the most Hugo Martin way ever: off-hand in a stream as a commenter.

Taking part in a recent T0yOta stream, who is an absolutely ridiculously good DOOM player, Hugo Martin, director on Eternal, simply commented, “Taras Babad [sic] – next master level.”

He meant Taras Nabad, the ninth level of DOOM Eternal and the capital of Argent D’Nur. If you need more of a reminder, it’s the level where a Marauder comes steaming out at you almost immediately and says “no” to you having a good day. Martin also said that he’s already played it, but can’t disclose when it’s releasing.

What Are Master Levels?

In short, Master Levels are remixed versions of already released levels in which the difficulty is cranked up a tonne and the overall play-by-play is drastically changed. They’re designed pretty much with the game’s best players in mind, so maybe don’t try them if your wrists hurt after Hurt Me Plenty. To be honest, mine hurt constantly no matter the difficulty, but I am just a very unhealthy, rapidly ageing man.

The most recent Master Level was Super Gore Nest, which was well received but did have some criticisms for being buggy at release. Considering how much backlash The Ancient Gods – Part Two received from elite players being a bit too easy, expect the Taras Nabad to be utterly, utterly horrible in terms of difficulty.

Remember: you asked for this pain.

In other Hugo Martin news, he just finished up a full stream playthrough of DOOM Eternal over on Twitch and YouTube that’s just about the best twenty hours or so of content you will watch this year.

Hugo, if you’re reading this, let’s talk lore sometime.

DOOM Eternal is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
