The Surge 2 Announced, Coming To PS4, Xbox One & PC in 2019

The Surge 2

One of last year’s underrated hits is getting a sequel. The Surge 2 is coming in 2019 and will land on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Developed again by Deck13 and published by Focus Home, the sequel will share the same ethos as the original: being hard as nails. Comparisons to Soulsborne were hard to ignore, though The Surge did enough interesting things to help it stand on its own merits.

Set in a new environment, said to be a “sprawling, devastated city with larger and more ambitious level design”, The Surge 2 will run on an upgraded engine. The limb targeting system (one of the original’s more unique but finicky features) will return with improvements, as well as more abilities, weapons, implants, and drones to take on The Surge 2’s new enemies.

Little other information has been revealed, though it will be showcased at Le What’s Next de Focus over the next two days.

We enjoyed the original, though we weren’t without our qualms. From our review:

“Despite some odd design choices and technical oddities, The Surge is a worthy addition to the Souls-like genre, and brings enough in the way of new features and gameplay mechanics to distinguish itself from the pack. Although it may look to be Dark Souls with a sci-fi skin, it would be a disservice to think of The Surge in those terms.”
