Over the weekend, a bunch of new leaks popped up regarding the DLC roster for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and if they’re to believed, it’s going to a bit of a weird mix. The leak itself dates back to a 5Channel post from around a month ago that suggested that Joker would be in the game and that Persona 5 R would be announced by Atlus, both of which came true.

The post goes on to say that the 4 DLC characters joining Joker and Piranha Plant would be Edrick from Dragon Quest, Ryu Hayabusa from the Ninja Gaiden series, Steve from Minecraft and, of all characters, the Marine/Doomguy from Doom. This 5Channel post has been brought out from hiding recently as it coincides with a post on ResetEra from a dataminer who found reference to Edrick in the source code.

The code in question refers to a character by a code name of Brave. Edrick’s vocation in Dragon Quest is Hero, or Yusha in Japanese which translates to Brave. The original leak stated that Edrick will also include Dragon Quest 10’s Anlucia and the protagonist from Dragon Quest 11 as alternative skins, and it’ll coincide with a wave of Dragon Quest games coming to the Switch.

As for the other characters, Ryu Hayabusa’s addition will help mark the 30th anniversary of the Ninja Gaiden series, and it’s reported that a new Ninja Gaiden project is in the works. As for Steve and Doomguy, they’re set to be announced at E3 in order to promote Minecraft Dungeons and Doom: Eternal respectively. Steve will come with skins for Alex and Master Chief, while Doomguy will get a Doom 64 skin.

Personally, it’s going to be a little bit weird seeing an all conquering badass space marine ripping and tearing his way through a roster of mostly cutesy characters, but like Dutch van Der Linde, we can be assured that Nintendo have a plan with all this.
