Dotemu, Lizard Cube and Guard Crush Games have announced today that the upcoming beat ’em up revival Streets of Rage 4 will be adding 12 playable characters from Streets of Rage 1 , 2 & 3, bringing the total roster of characters up to 17. Check out the retro trailer below.

Players will be able to unlock different versions of classic characters like Axel, Blaze, Max, Skate, Shiva and more. The classic sprites look quite odd when compared to the art style of the rest of the game, but this is a genuinely awesome nod to the roots of the series, and one that beat ’em up fans will no doubt appreciate. You can also stick some classic tracks on from previous games for the ultimate nostalgia trip.

Streets of Rage 4 will be coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch, with a vague release date of “coming soon”. A potential release date of April 23rd emerged, due to an Australian eShop listing, but Dotemu have stated that they’re not ready to confirm a release date right now. Either way, we can’t wait to play Streets of Rage 4 when it launches soon.
