The wandering warrior, the iconic mascot in the white gi and the guy who’s been throwing out fireballs and uppercuts for decades now, Street Fighter’s Ryu has had a lot of nicknames over the years. However, that’s just a testament to how recognisable this legend of fighting games has become. While Ryu’s design has changed significantly in Street Fighter 6, he’s still the same, stoic badass he always has been.

As the character that most players were introduced to Street Fighter with, making Ryu your master in Street Fighter 6’s World Tour mode probably feels like a no brainer for a lot of people. If you’re hoping to learn from the master of the Hadoken just what the meaning of strength really is, this is how you can become Ryu’s student in Street Fighter 6’s World Tour mode.

Once you’ve met with E. Honda during Chapter 8, the sumo lad will tell you about a Legendary Warrior who happens to be residing at Genbu Temple in Japan. Head on over to the world map and travel to Genbu Temple and you’ll be treated to a cutscene where you’re introduced to Street Fighter’s long-running poster-child, Ryu.

After the cutscene, you’ll be prompted to take a photo of Ryu, which can be done by heading to the indicated waypoint, opening the camera app on your phone and selecting mission mode. Then, just take the photo, back out and you’ll send the photo off to the mysterious info broker you’ve been working for in this chapter.

Now that you’ve sent off the photo, speak to Ryu and ask him to become your master, at which he’ll initially refuse. However, sensing your enthusiasm for training under the Ansatsuken master, Ryu will challenge you to a fight. At level 25, he’s not the toughest opponent you’ll face on your World Tour journey, particularly at this moment in time, but make sure you’ve got those healing items handy just in case. Once he goes down, he’ll agree to becoming your master, allowing you to learn his moves and more.

Street Fighter 6 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X & S.
