All the launch guys are confirmed, but what about DLC?

Recently, Capcom made waves by confirming what we all kind of expected: Street Fighter 6 is real, and SF V’s final DLC character Luke will be playing a huge role in the future of the biggest fighting game franchise on the market. But what about the rest of the roster? A fighting game is made by its characters, so here’s the confirmed roster for Street Fighter 6.

Street Fighter 6: All Confirmed Characters

Ahead of launch, Capcom have confirmed the base launch roster for Street Fighter 6. Here’s who you’ll be able to play as when the game launches:

– Blanka
– Cammy
– Chun-Li
– Dee Jay
– Dhalsim
– E. Honda
– Guile
– JP
– Jamie
– Juri
– Ken
– Kimberly
– Lily
– Luke
– Manon
– Marisa
– Ryu
– Zangief

All together, that adds up to a launch roster of 18 characters, which is two more than Street Fighter 5’s paltry 16 character roster.

Capcom has also started announcing some of the characters who will be coming to the game as DLC, as well as when they release:

– Rashid (Summer 2023)
– A.K.I.(Autumn 2023)
– Ed (Jan-Feb 2024)
– Akuma (Spring 2024)

We will update this as and when new fighters are announced.

Street Fighter 6: Who Can We Expect As DLC?

While there’s going to be enough new characters added to the base roster of Street Fighter 6 to keep things interesting, the bread and butter of a legacy fighting game’s roster, particularly with regards to DLC, is the classic characters, and Street Fighter has more to pull from than most. With five mainline games, each with their own iterations, along with spin-offs like Alpha and EX and tie-in franchises like Final Fight and Rival Schools, there’s a plethora of people to pick from.

As for who’ll be added to the game, we need to look into the franchise’s history. Since Street Fighter 2, the only two characters to appear in every single game alongside Ryu and Ken is Chun-Li and Akuma. These four characters are practically the cornerstones of Street Fighter’s recognisability, and with Ryu, Chun-Li and Ken already confirmed for the base roster, Akuma will likely also be added to the roster in time as part of the DLC.

The other metric we can use to guess who’ll be in the game is by using Capcom’s own usage rate stats for Street Fighter V to get a sense of who the player base enjoys most. At the time of writing, some of the more consistently popular characters include Urien, Kage, Laura, Alex and M.Bison.

Urien is a dark horse pick to reappear, though his gameplay is incredibly interesting and fun so it’d be nice to have him. As Kage is essentially Evil Ryu, it’d be interesting to see him appear, though it might clash with Ryu’s current character arc. Laura was a new addition to SF 5, and she’s remained quite popular since the game launched, so she could be a solid pick, while Alex would make for a good Third Strike representative in Street Fighter 6.  The real sticking point is M.Bison, who canonically is assumed dead after the events of SF V. Unless Capcom plan on reviving the dictator who looks like an evil train car conductor, he might not be returning in SF 6.

Street Fighter 6 releases on June 2nd, 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X & S.
