It’s been a long time coming for State of Decay 2 fans, but with its release coming up soon, we finally have a good, in-depth look at the gameplay.
The first noticeable thing is just how much it improves on the first. The original game was an out-an-out indie graphically, but State of Decay 2 has a nice polish to it that shows off the extra dollars in the production coffers.
Along with impressing visually, the gameplay trailer above shows off the game’s mechanics, which look to be expanded on greatly from the first. There’s better incorporation of stealth, a far deeper approach to hierarchy, and vehicles that don’t control like you’re drowning in syrup.
While the original State of Decay was an engrossing and pretty damn fun time, it had some sloppy moments that took me out of it quite often. It was close to the perfect simulation of zombie apocalypse survival but just slightly fell short in a couple of areas.
It’s still a couple of months away, but all signs are promising for State of Decay 2. Undead Labs have worked hard to make more than just small improvements on the original game and look to have used that as a prototype for a much grander vision. Especially seeing as how it’s at a budget price, I can’t wait.
State of Decay 2 launches on PC and Xbox One on May 22nd, 2018. Want more games like SoD? Check out our list for the best zombie games.
