Starfield Won’t Feature Any Multiplayer

No exploring space together, it seems.

Starfield

Bethesda’s Todd Howard spoke at the recent Develop: Brighton Digital 2020, and while the conversation broadly spoke about Todd and Bethesda as a whole, the conversation naturally circled around to their upcoming sci-fi game Starfield. You can check out the full talk at the top of the page.

So What’s New With Starfield?

Bethesda have been somewhat secretive regarding the game’s development up until now, but Todd confirmed that the game will be a single-player only experience. There will be no multiplayer to speak of in the game. Todd also confirmed that the development team will be utilising procedural generation to create the worlds of both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6.

Bethesda are pushing procedural generation “much further” than ever before, though the team will also put their own personal touch on areas where procedural isn’t quite working. On top of that, the Creation Engine itself has been given an overhaul, with improvements to aspects like animations, pathing, rendering and more.

Alright, So When Are We Going To See It In Action?

Not for a long time. Todd has stated Starfield is still subject to the usual delays and such, so we won’t be seeing more of the game for a while. We don’t know what platforms it’ll appear on, but considering Microsoft’s plans to acquire Bethesda, it’s highly likely we’ll see the game on Xbox Series X|S.
