Helium-3 (or He-3) is a resource you’ll come across frequently throughout the solar systems in Starfield and is a vital resource you’ll need to power reactors on your outposts and use in crafting.
You won’t need your Cutter, as it is a gas-based resource that you can interact with to acquire Helium-3. Be careful not to stand in the deposit for too long when extracting, as it can harm the player over time.
You’ll need to find a planet or moon that has a Helium-3 deposit, which you can achieve by jumping to the location and scanning it for resources. A few locations where you can get Helium-3 early in Starfield are:
– Curbeam (Alpha Centauri System)
– Grissom (Alpha Centauri System)
– Io (Sol System)
– Callisto (Sol System)
There are plenty of other locations, but these are a few easy suggestions if you are desperate.
The most effective way to farm Helium-3 is to set up an outpost on one of these planets. Place a Helium-3 extractor over the resource deposit, power it up, and harvest away. Check back in from time to time to get a fresh source of Helium-3 and keep a healthy supply coming in when you need it.
If you plan on building lots of outposts, you’ll want to farm this right away, as it’ll come in handy to keep the operations powered up. If grinding for this resource isn’t your style, you can always purchase it from many vendors throughout the settled systems. A nice, accessible one is Jemison Mercantile, located in New Atlantis by the spaceport. It’s not too costly, but as you’ll need a fair amount of this resource on your journey, you might want to deplete his inventory regularly if you’re using this method.
Starfield is available now on PC and Xbox Series X & S.
