Sony’s PlayStation Experience 2018 Isn’t Happening

Bad news for anyone wondering when we’ll be seeing the PlayStation Experience event for 2018: Sony have announced that they will skipping it this year.

Speaking on the PlayStation Blogcast, Shawn Layden, the head of SIE, confirmed what fans had feared after there had been no announcements on the event with the year drawing to a close.

“For 2018, I know this is going to be a disappointment for some people, but we’ve decided not to hold PlayStation Experience this year (h/t to Kotaku).

“We wouldn’t have enough to bring people all together in some location in North America to have that event. We don’t want to set expectations really high and then not deliver on it.”

Marvel's Spider-Man
This is disappointing news for those hoping for another look at games like The Last of Us: Part II or even Days Gone, but E3 not far behind in the rearview mirror and Sony’s exclusives slate for 2018 more or less wiped clean with big-hitter like Spider-Man and God of War out of the way, it shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Still, there are two medium-sized PS4 exclusives I personally would have loved to see get the limelight: Dreams and Medievil.

Media Molecule’s do-whatever-the-heck-you-like game is due for release this year but still has no concrete release date. Some extra PR wouldn’t hurt, either: it was relegated to a supporting act at E3 and, as Ash reported, didn’t get a lot of love at EGX 2018.

Dreams

Medievil, meanwhile, was revealed to be a remake in the pipeline at PSX last year but there’s been no sign of it since. With the PS1 game’s anniversary coming up really soon, Sony are either going for a surprise release or have quietly pushed it back.

PlayStation Experience has been an annual event since 2014 — 2018 will mark the first year in which Sony swerve it.
