Shawn Layden Is Leaving Sony Interactive Entertainment

"Thanks for everything, Shawn!"

Shawn Layden

In an sudden move, the official PlayStation Twitter account announced that Sony Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden will be leaving PlayStation and Sony after spending 32 years with the company, with no details regarding why Shawn is leaving. The announcement also didn’t come with the news of Shawn Layden’s successor, which suggests this isn’t something either party was prepared for.

Shawn Layden has worked for Sony since 1987, though his most public stint with the company arguably began in 2014, when he succeeded Jack Tretton in becoming President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America. After Sony threw its different divisions under the Sony Interactive Entertainment flag back in 2016, Layden began managing the entire operation as the chairman of Worldwide Studios.

Layden himself hasn’t offered any official statement regarding the reasons as to why he’s no longer with Sony, though he has been liking tweets offering him support during this departure. The sudden nature of this announcement is surprising though, and we would like to extend our full support to Shawn Layden. Your presence in the gaming industry will be missed.
