Shailene Woodley & Callum Turner Have An Illicit Affair in New Netflix Movie

Netflix keeps us hydrated in this new movie drought.

The Last Letter From Your Lover

Netflix just released the official trailer for The Last Letter From Your Lover, a film adaptation of Jojo Moyes’ book of the same name, leaving all the romantics to set a reminder on our Netflix accounts, so that we are alerted the moment the film hits the streaming service.

The narrative toggles between the past and the present, and begins when a journalist (Felicity Jones) stumbles upon a trove of secret love letters. As she reads the letters, the love story between the 1960s couple (played by Shailene Woodley and Callum Turner) unfolds before us, and she finds herself with the insatiable urge to know how it all ends. In an interesting casting choice, Joe Alwyn plays Laurence, Jennifer’s (Woodley) controlling and abusive husband.

This is the second time one of Moyes’ books has been adapted to film, with the first being Me Before You in 2016, starring Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin. The film’s reception remained rather on the fence, for while the audience enjoyed the chemistry between the leads, it didn’t handle its sensitive topics well.

Netflix has quite a good track record when it comes to romance films, and with a stacked cast onboard, here’s hoping The Last Letter From Your Lover does a better job.

You can catch the film on Netflix come July 23, 2021.
