Saints Row: How To Play Co-Op With Your Friends

Friends til the end.

Saints Row

One of the biggest selling points of the Saints Row series since the second instalment has been the fact you can complete the entire game in co-op with a friend, which is handy when the criminal underworld of the city of Santo Ileso is bearing down on you. The Saints Row reboot also features two-player co-op, and we’ve got the guide on how you can cause some havoc with your friends in Saints Row.

First of all, bear in mind that all players on consoles (whether PS4 and PS5 or Xbox One and Series X & S) will need either PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live respectively to play online. There is no subscription required for PC.

Players can join from the very start of the campaign, as the host player needs to select “Co-Op Campaign” in the main menu. Here, the player can select “Host New Game”, and invite their friend to join immediately, letting you play co-op from the very start of the game. Just make sure you have your created characters ready to import from Boss Factory, otherwise the start of the game might take forever.

In order for you to have access to drop-in, drop-out co-op play, you need to first complete the Making Rent mission, which is the second story mission in the game. The first two missions are designed to be completed sequentially, without interruption from co-op players joining and leaving, so it makes sense that you need to wait a little bit before players can come and go.

Once you’re in the game, there are multiple co-op settings to play around with that can give you your preferred experience. Players can set whether or not they want co-op to be open to all, which activates matchmaking with players looking to join games, or they can go for friends only and invite only if they’d prefer a little bit more privacy. You can also tinker with settings like if you take damage from friendly fire, or if you’re up for a little bit of pranking.

Saints Row is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X & S.
