Gestures were a feature of Rust added many years after the game first launched, allowing players to use emotes towards each other. Is there a way to use gestures on PS4 and Xbox One for Rust: Console Edition?
The simple answer: not yet. As Rust: Console Edition is a minor fear of magic in terms of making such a big game work on what is now very old tech, a lot of features have been stripped back or removed, one of those being the gestures system. Developers Double Eleven are on the case, though:
“Our first post launch update aims to bring the highly requested Tech Tree, a great update to the game play, as well as Gestures that will improve the way you communicate in game.”
What this means is that they are fairly high on the priority list (and also might not be that hard to implement), so expect to see gestures added to Rust: Console Edition shortly after launch. That said, bear in mind that the developers will probably be working on optimising the game for a while after launch, so it might be a little longer.
Don’t forget that you can press R3 to use quickchat in Rust: Console Edition. It’s an interesting system that has perhaps too many options for it to be truly intuitive, but it’s certainly better than nothing, at least until Rust on console eventually gets emotes.
