Rust Celebrates Chinese New Year With Fireworks

Looks like you can keep those silencers at your base.

Rust New Year

To celebrate Chinese New Year, as well as it being the Year of the Rat, Rust developers Facepunch have announced the Lunar New Year Update, which will bring new cosmetics and items to the game.

The biggest addition will be fireworks, which can be crafted and used with something called the electric igniter. Firecrackers will also be introduced for the update and will work similarly to flares, so maybe don’t let your dogs play Rust for the foreseeable future.

Also coming to the game are a dragon and rat mask, as well as a deployable gong that goes alongside the game’s Instruments DLC.

Here’s everything that’s coming to the game.

Rat Mask: Embody the year of the Rat with the brand-new Rat Mask, now available in the market
Fireworks: Give the gift of joy, bright lights and loud noises as fireworks are now available for crafting, including roman candles, volcanos and boomers (no we won’t say it). Grab your friends and celebrate the Lunar New Year in style by lighting up the skies with the electric igniter! Firecrackers can also be found for those who are vertically-challenged.
Deployable Gong: Speaking of loud noises, a Deployable Gong has also been added, complementing the recent instrument DLC. Shoot or hit it!
Returning items: returning to the market is the Dragon Door Knocker and Dragon Mask. Add some seasonal flare to your bases, or look like a badass dragon, the choice is yours.

And some screenshots of the additions.

The update will go live tonight (January 23rd) at 7PM GMT with no force wipe required. While the new loud noises will no doubt be fun additions, I can’t help but it feel that it will be the new meta to provide sound cover for raids.

Rust is available now on Steam. A PS4 and Xbox One version will arrive sometime in 2020.
