Team Ninja is a video game developer based in Japan that started in 1995. Their main claims to fame are the Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden video game franchises. Other recent releases you might’ve also heard of are Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, Nioh 2, and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
When Is Rise Of The Ronin Coming Out?
Rise of the Ronin was announced during Sony’s September 2022 State of Play with a teaser trailer that used in-game footage. The end of the trailer revealed the release date to be sometime in 2024.
Fumihiko Yasuda, the director and president of Team Ninja, stated that Rise of the Ronin has already been in development for seven years. This means that Rise of the Ronin was in development long before Wo Long’s development even started. Hopefully, this would lead to a polish that outshines Wo Long’s.
What Is Rise Of The Ronin About?
You play as a customizable Ronin in the Bakumatsu period of Japan (late 19th century). This time period is when Japan was finally opening itself up to foreign countries. As you can imagine, this was a controversial period; many people were against these changes in policies.
Tensions would rise until it eventually erupted into the Japanese civil war known as the Boshin War. This war was fought by the Imperial Court against the Shogunate, with both sides trying to take control of the Japanese empire.
It hasn’t been officially stated which side the player will fight for, but they were described as a “warrior bound by no master.” This may imply that could choose your own path and pick sides in the conflict.
Players will use katanas, Boshin firearms, and even what appears to be a crude glider from the trailer to fight their way to victory.
Aside from the initial trailer itself, there hasn’t been much gameplay footage yet, but from what they’ve shown, it looks like Rise of the Ronin will be a Soulslike game. If so, this would be great news, as Team Ninja has had amazing results with Soulslike games such as Nioh and Wo Long.
Rise of the Ronin is going to be an open-world game, which is something Team Ninja doesn’t have a ton of experience on. Yasuda has even stated that this game is Team Ninja’s “most ambitious and challenging project to date.” Fingers crossed on whether they can make it great or not.
Which Platforms Will Rise Of The Ronin Be On?
Rise of the Ronin will be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the creator of the entire PlayStation line of consoles. This means that Rise of the Ronin will be available exclusively on the PS5 and is highly unlikely to ever come to Xbox or Switch. Hopefully, the game will also be available on PC in the future, but that’s not something that’s coming anytime soon.
