Rainbow Six Siege, despite being around for an entire console generation at this point, is still one of the most popular and actively played multiplayer shooters out there, particularly on Xbox. With the prevalence of Xbox Game Pass on the platform, some will no doubt wonder whether you’ll need an Xbox Game Pass subscription to play Rainbow Six Siege.

The answer is no, you do not need an Xbox Game Pass subscription in order to play Rainbow Six Siege. You do need an Xbox Live Gold membership to play Siege on consoles, just like how you need a PlayStation Plus subscription for PS4 and PS5, but not Game Pass. Xbox Live Gold comes bundled with the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, but you don’t need Game Pass in order to play Rainbow Six Siege.

The Deluxe Edition of Rainbow Six Siege is included as part of the Xbox Game Pass library, which gives players access to the full game plus the operators from the first two years, letting players hit the ground running so to speak. You still need to unlock the base game’s 20 operators using Renown, but the amount needed can be earned easily in the game’s Situations mode.

You’ll also have access to all 16 operators from the first two years of content available to play, along with all the modes and maps that have been added via free updates since the game launched back at the end of 2015. Players can then spend either real world money or in-game Renown to unlock the operators from years 3-7, pushing the overall playable character count past 60.

Rainbow Six Siege is out now on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, and Xbox One.
