The Move is somehow, somehow entering a third generation.

As well as letting players know that their DualShock will work for PS4 games on the upcoming console, Sony have also disclosed that PSVR players won’t be left in the lurch. The Aim and Move controllers will both be compatible with the PlayStation 5.

The news comes from PlayStation themselves as they detailed what to expect from compatibility for current devices with the PlayStation 5:

“Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5.”

This is great news for those who have been playing VR on their PS4 and want to carry it over to the PS5, but it’s not yet clear what whether this applies to all upcoming PS VR games or just the ones that are already on PS4 that will be backwards compatible. There’s a lot of great games that will hopefully make the leap.

It’s expected that the PlayStation 5 will get its own form of VR, but what exactly that entails remains to be seen. Whether’s that an entirely new headset or what, there are few details to go off. You should definitely expect some updated Move controllers at the very least. We are talking about PlayStation 3 tech here, after all.

As for the Aim, that’s considerably more of a niche accessory for PS VR and its supported games currently aren’t all that all-encompassing. Hopefully with a second life on the PS5, we’ll see more and more developers make use of the interesting peripheral.

PlayStation VR has been a small-scale success for Sony, though perhaps not quite as huge as they would have liked. Sales are falling for the now quite old tech, so it will be fascinating to see what a potential new version of PS VR on a more powerful console can provide.
