PSA: PS5 Launch Day Sales Will Be Restricted To Online-Only

The reason why should be obvious.

Just a quick little public service announcement for you here, if you’re still waiting to order a PS5: Sony have announced that the launch day drop of PS5 units will be restricted to online stores of Sony’s retail partners, meaning you won’t be able to walk into the shop and place your money down on a console that looks like a router.

Is This Because Of COVID-19?

Obviously. In a PlayStation Blog about the announcement, SIE’s Senior Director Sid Shuman states: “In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners.”

He adds: “No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.”

What About In-Store Pick Up?

For those who’ve pre-ordered the new hardware for in-store pick up, your orders should remain unaffected, though certain stores and regions might have their own policies considering the UK has officially entered Lockdown 2: Electric Boogaloo. Either way, if you need a PS5, online is the way to go.
