PS4 Firmware Update v6.02 Out Now, Does Nothing

PS4 PlayStation 4

It’s been a long ol’ while since we’ve seen anything substantial or that interesting from PS4 firmware updates, and v6.02 continues that trend.

The description to go with the update may as well become a slogan of Sony’s at this point, we’re that familiar with it. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, here’s what v6.02 does for your PS4:

“This system software update improves system performance.”

Traditionally, these updates have offered very marginal improvements on system performance, so much so that they’re barely even noticeable. Since downloading and applying the update, nothing has really changed for me, which is a shame.

Those hoping for some kind of wider change will be left disappointed: the PSN ID name change program is only available to select users and won’t be available widely until next year. Earlier comments from Sony suggested that this would be a way for them to fix the Messages exploit, but it seems that they have already fixed that.

All of these minimal updates have to be moving towards something, right? You’d have to hope: my PS4 now performs so well that it’s being tested by the IAAF for PEDs.
