As Niantic announced with the release of Mega Evolutions, there would be three theme weeks regarding these new Pokémon. The first of these three weeks revolves around Mega Raids, currently of which there is Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard X and Y and Mega Blastoise.

Beginning on September 1st at 8am and running until September 7th at 10pm local time, you will be seeing more of these Mega Raids around. Each raid you complete will give you a chunk of Mega Evolution energy, and collecting a set amount of this will allow you to Mega Evolve your Pokémon.

This will only last four hours, so you want to make sure to keep accumulating this Mega Energy in order to keep Mega Evolving at different times. During this event, you’ll also be able to find Field Research tasks from spinning Pokéstops which will award you with Venusaur, Charizard or Blastoise Mega Energy. Make sure to complete as many as these as possible to rack up that Mega Energy.

Battling these raids during this week will also give you an attack boost for battling with friends, which in turn will give you more Mega Energy for defeating a Raid boss quickly, so make sure you grab all your friends and get battling! Field Research tasks will also revolve around Raids, so make sure to pick up a variety of tasks before you go battling to make sure you get the most from your rewards.

There’s also a bunch of boosted Pokémon during this week, many of which already have their Shiny form released, so it’s the perfect time to get out and hunt these Pokémon. Abra, Magnemite, Exeggcute, Rhyhorn, Tangela, Electabuzz, Omanyte, Aerodactyl, Murkrow, Larvitar, Treeko, Torchic, Lotad, Roselia and Beldum are all boosted with a chance to be Shiny, with Cranidos also boosted with no Shiny form released yet.

As an extra incentive for this week, if everyone globally completes two million Mega Raids before the event ends, we will unlock Mega Pidgeot in future Mega Raids. This giant Flying type Pokémon is sure to pack a punch, but coming up against it with Rock, Ice or Electric types should see you take the win in no time.

Pokémon Go is a downloadable mobile game where you can catch, trade and battle Pokémon with your friends. Get everyone together to battle the new Mega Evolutions, and become the ultimate trainer by trying to catch them all!
