Pokémon GO Fest 2020: Tips, Cost & What You Need To Know

Go read this to know where to go in Pokémon GO. Garurumon.

With the GO Fest event for Pokémon Go less than a day away, you might be wondering what you need to know before you go, especially if this is your first participation in a GO Fest. In preparation for the big event on Juky 25th and 26th, there’s a few things you can do to make sure both you and your account is ready for the Pokémon chaos that’s about to ensue.

Buy the GO Fest Ticket
This may seem an obvious one, but to partake in this event, you have to physically go into the in-game shop and buy the ticket. This has to be done with real money (not in-game coins unfortunately) and will cost £14.99, or your regional equivalent.

While this may seem quite steep, this ticket will last you the whole weekend and include not only the Pokémon spawns, but also the special challenges, and consequential rewards that accompany them. Honestly, for the amount of Pokémon you’ll encounter, as well as the rarer spawns, it’s probably worth your money if you’re any kind of interested player.

Clear your Pokémon space
This is definitely top of your list, as there will be an awful lot of Pokémon for you to catch over the next two days. Making sure you have ample space in which to catch them will save you a lot of time trawling through and deleting to make room during the event. You will ideally want to have a few hundred spare bag space, which the greater you have the better.

You can use some in-game search terms to find some of your better and worse Pokémon, and delete the ones you don’t need. For example, search “4* & 3*” to find your best ones, and obviously “0* & 1*” are your not so good ones. If you are one of those people, like me, who likes to keep a living dex in your game (one of every Pokémon and evolution), you might want to buy some extra storage. You can do this through the in-game shop, at 200 coins per 50 space expansion, up to a total of 3500 as of today.

Stock up on Poké Balls
In order to catch a lot of Pokémon, you’re going to need a lot of balls. Hopefully you’ll already have some saved up, but if not, that’s what you’re going to also want to spend today doing. There’s three types of balls in the game, with Poké Ball being the lowest chance of catching, Great Ball medium chance and Ultra Ball the highest chance. Obviously Ultra Balls are the best to stock up on because of this, but you can pair the lower chance balls with Razz and Golden Razz berries (up your percentage chance of catching a Pokémon) to alleviate the difference.

To stock up your balls as quickly as possible, your best shot is to firstly open all the gifts you have available for the day. Once you hit this 30 limit, then get yourself to your local stops or gyms and get spinning them as much as possible before the end of the day. Again, you’ll want a fair few hundred of these to keep you going for two days, but make sure to keep collecting items during the GO Fest event as much to keep yourself topped up.

Invest in a Powerbank
The event runs from 10am-8pm both days, so chances are you’re going to be playing for most of this time. A powerbank is a great investment for the more hardcore players who are going to be out and about catching all day.

Pokémon Go is a killer on your phone’s battery, as I’m sure most of you are aware, so having a power bank or battery pack of some kind is definitely going to be a lifesaver. These come in a variety of sizes and prices, so find the one that’s best for you, and don’t forget to check it can fit in your bag or pocket before you buy it, as you don’t want to be carrying it around all day in your hand when you’re trying to catch Pokémon.

Keep an eye on which Habitat is live
Niantic have announced that there will be rotating habitats during the event tomorrow, with each lasting an hour and making an appearance twice during the day (for Saturday). The habitats for tomorrow are Battle, Friendship, Fire, Water and Grass in that order, and each will have particular spawns and challenges. If you’re looking for a specific Pokémon tomorrow, then make sure you’re looking for them whilst the correct habitat is live.

Complete the Special Research for Victini
Although we don’t know yet what the Special Research will entail, we know that there will presumably be one, and that the reward will definitely be the new Mythical Pokémon, Victini. In images shown by Niantic, there are drawings of Team Rocket capturing Victini, so there’s potential for this Research to be based around Rocket battles, but this is purely speculation at this point. You’ll want to try and complete the whole Research and get your Victini before the end of the event, because although you’ll be able to complete it after, the tasks relating to it may be harder to complete.

Be prepared for Day Two
Niantic have given us all the details for what will be happening during the first day of GO Fest, but we have had basically no announcement for what is happening on the second day. Make sure you are prepared for anything, and stay alert to the in-game news that will hopefully let us know what to expect. Either way, make sure you have Pokémon and item space still, as well as being topped up on the various different Pokéballs, and you should be covered whatever happens.

Wherever and however you are going to spend the GO Fest event, make sure you stay safe out there trainers, enjoy yourself and catch everything.
