PlayStation Unveils Official PS5 Console Covers

Finally the PS5 can match your lava lamp.

PS5 Console Covers

For the approximately seven people who have managed to get their hands on a PS5, Sony has announced new colored faceplates, called ‘console covers.’

The console covers will ship in January 2022, and come in five colors as seen in the image above: Galactic Purple, Starlight Blue, Nova Pink, Cosmic Red, and Midnight Black. These colors coordinate with the existing colors of PS5’s DualSense controllers, which currently exist in white, Midnight Black and Cosmic Red. Purple, blue, and pink DualSense controllers are also due for release in 2022.

The black and red console covers will be released in January. All other colors of console cover and DualSense controller will ship later, in the first half of 2022.

In addition to being available through retailers, Sony will also be selling the covers early on the PlayStation Direct online store in the US, UK, and Germany.

Sony’s announcement about these console covers comes after their patent for PlayStation 5 faceplates and a number of legal actions levied against third party companies selling unofficial PlayStation 5 customization. Now that Sony has an official patent and design for PS5 faceplates, they will have a much stronger legal case to argue that third party designs are copyright infringement.

At any rate, PS5 owners can now add a little color and style to their next gen console, if its stark white default color feels too sterile.
