It’s been announced that PlayStation have been recognised by Guinness World Records as becoming the “best-selling home video game console brand ever”, which sounds like it’s the most complicated prerequisites for a category ever. Check out the announcement tweet below.

As the tweet says, PlayStation have managed to shift over 450 million units as of November 7th, with those figures combined across all the PlayStation consoles, including PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4. The tweet doesn’t specify whether or not that includes the PSP or, and try to hold back laughter here, the Vita, though they’d both likely fit into another category. The figure also doesn’t include however many console were sold during Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

The announcement happens to occur on the 25th anniversary of PlayStation, with the PS1 first launching on December 3rd 1994. What better way to celebrate a quarter century of your console than by revealing it’s the best-selling console in history? President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan even published a post on the PlayStation Blog chronicling the history of the brand.
