First released in 2001 for the PlayStation 2, Red Faction captivated players with its fast-paced gunplay and conspicuously communist narrative and imagery. Its most defining feature, though, was its innovative Geo-Mod technology, which allowed for destructible environments at a scale rarely seen at the time.
After four mainline games, a digital-only arcade title, and even a feature-length movie tie-in on Syfy, Red Faction was discontinued in 2011 when Red Faction: Armageddon failed to meet sales expectations. Publisher THQ filed for bankruptcy a year later, and the rights for the series were passed around for years before Volition’s parent company, Koch Media, snatched them up in May 2020.
Now that Red Faction is back in Volition’s hands, could a sequel or reboot be in the cards for the blow-’em-up shooter? For now, series fans will have to settle for replaying the old classics. Here’s where to play the Red Faction games today.

Red Faction has been re-released so many times over the years that you should have little issue finding a way to play the game (unless you play on Microsoft consoles exclusively).
Physical copies of the PS2 version of Red Faction are in ready supply online, with used copies going for under a dollar.
You can insert the PS2 version into a “fat” PS3 and play via backwards compatibility.

The N-Gage port is very difficult to find anywhere. This version of Red Faction reviewed poorly and sold even worse, so unless you’re a collector, you can safely ignore this port.
