Alberto El Patron Released By Impact

Alberto El Patron has been released by Impact Wrestling.

The former WWE and Impact world champion finally pushed his employer too far after a main event no-show on Friday night embarrassed the company into taking action.

Patron was scheduled to team with Pentagon Jr. to take on the duo of Austin Aries and Ray Fenix; the climax of the interpromotional Impact vs Lucha Underground card that formed part of Wrestlecon.

Confusion reigned as to just why Patron hadn’t made it to the venue. Some sources claimed the former WWE and Impact world champion simply didn’t turn up. Others say the controversial star informed his employers of sickness that would prevent him from fighting that night.

Patron had turned up the pre-fight press conference two hours prior, building to the night’s main event plus the scheduled bout between Aries and Patron at Impact’s April 22 PPV, Redemption.

The match was quickly turned into a Triple Threat between those that were in the ring, but the paying crowd didn’t take too lightly to Patron’s latest indiscretion. According to PW Insider, chants of “Fuck Del Rio” took centre stage.

Some online spoke in hushed tones of a worked angle in the vain hopes of building interest in the PPV, but Patron’s release confirms otherwise.

Patron has been no stranger to trouble since his time with Impact. The man known as Alberto Del Rio in WWE arrived with a history of rubbing people the wrong way, and the trend continued from the beginning of his time with their rivals.

From being stripped of his title in real life after some ugly personal issues became public to claiming he was forced to no show a AAA card because he had been stabbed, as well as rumours about his relationship with WWE’s Paige and his penchant for angry social media posts calling out Triple H, it was only a matter of time before Patron finally put too many straws on the camel’s back.
