Ouran High School Host Club is one of those classic afternoon anime you’d watch after coming home from school. Seeing Haruhi Fujioka’s hilarious misadventures and embracing her role as a host has become a core memory to many anime fans in the early 2000s.
So much so that the hunger for the next chapter in Haruhi and Tamaki’s relationship has never really died down to this day. There’s still a decent chunk of the manga left to adapt, so why hasn’t it yet? Will the fans’ voices ever cause Ouran High School Host Club: Season 2 to get a confirmed release date?
When Is Ouran High School Host Club: Season 2 Being Released?
Unfortunately, Ouran High School Host Club: Season 2 won’t be coming anytime soon. There has been no legitimate news or announcements regarding the renewal of a second season since the show ended in 2006.
That’s not to say that Season 2 is impossible though. The well hasn’t run dry yet in terms of the source material. Season 1 only adapted Volumes 1-7 of the manga, although certain scenes from future volumes were spread out in the anime. There are still six volumes left to adapt, so it’s all up to the producers on whether or not they want to bring the show back.
The biggest likelihood, though, is that the show will end up getting rebooted, as we seem to be getting more and more reboots of classic shows.
What Could Ouran High School Host Club: Season 2 About?
There are two paths that Ouran High School Host Club: Season 2 can take. The first is to adapt Volumes 8-13 which will pick up where Season 1 left off. These volumes have a slew of fun stories such as Reiko trying to use magic to seduce Hunny, the hosts challenging the American Football Club to a match, and the further development of Haruhi and Tamaki’s relationship. Of course, the other hosts who have also taken a liking to Haruhi aren’t too far behind.
The second option is that, as mentioned, instead of a Season 2, a remake might be the way to go. Season 1 is over a decade and a half old, so a retelling of the entire plot would do fans a great service. There’s also a lot of skipped content from the manga that a remake could do justice to.
Which Studio Could Make Ouran High School Host Club: Season 2?
Although Ouran High School Host Club: Season 2 isn’t currently being made, if it did, which companies would do it? The best bets are the previous producers and the animation studio that handled Season 1. VAP, Hakusensha, and Nippon Television Network all co-produced Season 1, while Studio Bones was in charge of the animation.
VAP began producing anime in 1981 and is the company that made the anime adaptations of Death Note and the 2011 Hunter x Hunter.
Hakusensha was founded in 1973 and has produced other classic romance anime like Kaichou Wa Maid-sama! and Fruits Basket.
Going back in time even further, Nippon Television Network was created in 1952 and has worked side by side with VAP on various projects like Parasyte and Death Parade.
Studio Bones is a huge name in the animation sphere. Starting in 1998, they’ve animated major shounen titles like My Hero Academia and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
