Love triangles are not a new concept in storytelling. When it comes to anime, Domestic Girlfriend does it better than any of its other contemporaries, with many fans still clamouring for Domestic Girlfriend: Season 2. The story follows Natsuo, a high school student who falls for his teacher, Hina. His feelings, however, go unrequited, and Natsuo is seduced by a different girl, Rui. However, the real conflict of the story begins when Natsuo discovers that the girl he slept with and the teacher he has feelings for are sisters. Not only that, but they are his dad’s new girlfriend’s daughters.
While the manga ran from April 2014 to June 2020, there has only been one 12-episode anime adaptation of it, which was well received by fans. So, if it did so well, surely that would mean a continuation of the anime with a second season? Well, it’s not looking great.
When Is Domestic Girlfriend: Season 2 Being Released?
Despite the success of the first season of Domestic Girlfriend, there is no official release date for Domestic Girlfriend: Season 2.
Back in 2020, a fan asked Kei Sasuga, the original manga’s author, if there were any plans for a second season on Twitter. Unfortunately, she replied that there were none and nothing has been heard since. It’s been more than three years since then, so the future of the show is looking fairly bleak.
Studio Diomedea has not made a comment on the matter either. However, the manga series is over, which means two things: anime fans can get a conclusion to the story they became invested in, and there also could be newly increased demand for a second season to be produced.
What Is Domestic Girlfriend: Season 2 About?
Domestic Girlfriend is adapted from the manga series created by Sasuga. The last volume of the manga was released in 2020, and there are currently 28 volumes in the series. The first season of the anime covers the first eight volumes. A hypothetical second season would likely follow the next eight volumes afterwards.
If it continued at that rate, there would even be enough content for a third season before a final fourth season, but the lack of Season 2 means that we will be lucky to get to that point.
Which Studio Is Making Domestic Girlfriend: Season 2?
While they haven’t made any comment on the release of a new season, there is no reason for or against Studio Diomedea taking up the Domestic Girlfriend mantle again. The anime was also licensed by Sentai Filmworks, so it is likely that they would do the same for Season 2.
Where Will Domestic Girlfriend: Season 2 Be Aired?
The foreseeable future does not look promising for a follow-up to Domestic Girlfriend, with no plans from the manga author and no word from the animation studio. However, you can still watch the first season on Crunchyroll. Domestic Girlfriend is also available on VRV, HiDive, and Google Play, as well as physically on Blu-ray.
