A24’s Everything Everywhere All At Once takes home the Oscar for Best Picture. It beats out contenders All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness and Women Talking. The award was presented by Harrison Ford.

The film is both a family drama and sci-fi action adventure, about a Chinese American woman’s (Michelle Yeoh) estranged relationship with her daughter Joy (Stephanie Hsu).

It was a great night for Everything Everywhere All At Once, as the film took home 7 Academy Awards, which include Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Actress, and Best Director for The Daniels. It is the first time that multiple Asian actors have won Oscars in the same year. It is also the most awarded Best Picture candidate since Slumdog Millionaire in 2008. Unfortunately, it is one Oscar short of besting Danny Boyle’s film, which took home 8 Oscars at the 2009 Academy Awards.

This Best Picture win comes as no surprise, given how the film has dominated in the award circuit. It took home the SAG award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, as well as the Critics’ Choice award for Best Picture.
