After No Man’s Sky released, a lot of people were disappointed by the very high expectations they had for the game. It was the game that led to Steam redefining their refund policies, even if only for the game. Its release was so brutal that, despite still having many fans, it had very negative reviews on Steam for two years.
Now that NEXT is out, Steam reviews have spiked up to Mixed, with recent reviews being “very positive”. On top of that, the number of concurrent players spiked up to 41,000, a whopping twenty times the peak amount of concurrent players in previous months.
For the past year, fans of No Man’s Sky and ARG-cracking on the Game Detectives Discord server have been puzzling their way through an ARG (alternate reality game) called Waking Titan, developed by Alice and Smith, the same people who have worked on ARGs for The Secret World as well as their own “permanent ARG” games The Black Watchmen, NITE Team 4 and Ahnayro.
The first season of Waking Titan ended in the Atlas Rises update, which already led to many in-game changes, but season two was leading up to No Man’s Sky: NEXT, which has been feverishly awaited ever since its announcement. No wonder player numbers are spiking.
