Nintendo Direct 2015: 19 Things We Learned

Iwata

6. New Amiibo and Mario Party 10

This spring season, we can expect to see Robin, Lucina, PacMan, Wario, Ness, and Charizard release in adorable plastic Nintendo statue form. Alongside them, a new line of Super Mario Amiibo have been announced, with recurring characters from the Smash Bros series of figures, but with a new base and more standard poses. These ones will include Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Bowser, and for the first time as an Amiibo, Toad. They will work the exact same way as their Smash Bros counterparts, and vice versa. A chart is viewable at this link: http://www.nintendo.com/amiibo/compatibility/. These are set to release alongside Mario Party 10 on March 20th.

7. Splatoon

A Wii U game that started under the radar has made its mark since we’ve last seen it and is looking very impressive. You play as highly customizable humanoid squids and shoot brightly colored ink on a multiplayer map to attempt to dominate it. The game is a Multiplayer 4 on 4 Third Person Shooter, although Nintendo has confirmed that there will also be a single player mode. Hopefully we can expect more news on that in the coming months as we near its May release window.

8. Hyrule Warriors DLC

To celebrate the release of Majoras Mask 3D, Tingle and Young Link have been announced as new playable characters for Hyrule Warriors. Tingle will attack with balloons, dancing, and a bag full of Rupees in full creepy-elf fashion, while Young Link will wield the Kokiri Sword and the Fierce Deity mask to pull off grand-scale special attacks. Both of these characters, as well as 3 DLC costumes for existing characters and a new Adventure Mode map will be available on February 5th on the Wii U eShop.

9. Xenoblade Chronicles X

A trailer was shown, showcasing grand fantasy vistas, beautiful locales, and a violent spaceship crash. Expect more information on this upcoming Wii U title later this year.

10. Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars

Like the previous games in the series, the gameplay remains largely the same, with small features added, including a star currency, which you can use to “tip” people online when you play their custom maps and want to congratulate them, thus the namesake. This will be the first ever Nintendo “Cross-Buy” game, and it will come exclusively to the Nintendo eShop on March 5th for both Wii U and 3DS.
