In a surprise announcement, Nintendo have revealed that a new Paper Mario game is coming to the Nintendo Switch. It’s called Paper Mario: The Origami King, and it’s launching July 17th, 2020 on the Nintendo Switch. Check out the official reveal trailer below.
As you might have guessed from the word origami, the new Paper Mario’s graphical style will incorporate the Japanese art of folding paper. The origami menace has invaded the Mushroom Kingdom, forcing Mario to team up with a new partner, Olivia, along with a folded version of Bowser, to take down King Olly and his hordes of Folded Soldiers.
Mario has been given a bit of an upgrade this time around, with his 100-Fold Arms ability allowing him to extend his arms to solve puzzles and open up the environment. The combat has been overhauled too, with a ring-based system that allows Mario to line up attacks to damage multiple enemies at once.
While I’m still hoping for a re-release of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, that’s my cross to bear, and The Origami King looks like it’ll be a welcome addition to the series in the meantime. Are you excited for a new Paper Mario game? Sound off in the comments.
