Ninja Theory Delay Hellblade Until 2017

Hellblade

Our wallets cry with relief.

Ninja Theory, the guys behind the polarising DmC and the underappreciated Enslaved, have announced that their new game, Hellblade, will be delayed until sometime in 2017. This comes after many were left asking if they could make their tentative “2016” release window.

One of the more interesting games to watch out for, Hellblade is more than just your typical action title – it deals with the impact of mental health. It doesn’t hurt that it’s also one of the most beautiful looking games you’re likely to lay your eyes on.

In a production update, something they’ve been doing ever since the game was announced, Ninja Theory explained some of the reasons behind the delay.

Quick takeaways for low attention spans:

– They were working on another project that was shelved.
– They wanted the opportunity to work on mocap with Epic in further depth.
– It just hasn’t been as smooth sailing to make the game as they initially expected.

While game delays might be more common than we would all like them to be, it’s almost always for the better. Extra time on post-production allows developers to stitch up the issues and release titles without ridiculous day one patches, which nobody has time for.

It’s also worth commending Ninja Theory on their transparency. Not enough developers are so forthcoming with the whys and hows, so it’s refreshing to see one be completely open with their audience, something the team have been doing since Hellblade was announced.
