After being revealed via a CGI trailer at The Game Awards in December, a new gameplay trailer has emerged for the free-to-play action RPG Magic: Legends being developed by Cryptic Studios, based on the popular Magic: The Gathering card game. The new trailer comes courtesy of Game Informer, who have exclusive coverage of the game as part of their January cover story. Check out the trailer below.
You might notice that it looks quite a bit like Diablo, with hordes of enemies and a top-down perspective, but Magic: Legends seems to be introducing new elements that should both honour the source material and keep the game fresh amidst a crowded genre.
Players will be able to build a deck of 12 cards, 4 of which focused on active abilities that can be used in combat. These cards then get cycled as you play, so you’ll constantly have different attacks to play with. It’s an interesting concept, and one that could be the variation Magic: Legends needs to stand out from the pack. We’ll find out when the game launches on PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2020.
