It’s been revealed that Microsoft have very recently renewed the trademark for the Fable franchise, amidst the swirling rumours that the UK developer Playground Games, currently most famous for their work on Forza Horizon, is working on the next instalment in the series. The trademark listing was reported on by IGN.

While it’s perfectly ordinary for business to renew their trademarks whenever they can, what’s interesting here is that Microsoft have specifically tagged the trademark with “intent to use”, while simultaneously marking that they’re not currently using the trademark. You can have a read of the trademark listing for yourself right here.

Fable is still considered to be one of the Xbox’s most recognisable franchises, so it was inevitable that Microsoft would find some way to revisit that world. With the Xbox Series X scheduled to launch at the end of the year, the timing is right for the popular RPG series to return and make a huge impact on next-gen.
