Is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Coming to Xbox?

Spider-Man may do whatever a spider can, but will he ever do it on the Xbox? Insomniac Games’ highly-anticipated sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, has been gaining a lot of traction lately. The first look at the iconic black suit, Curt Connors’ Lizard personality, and Kraven the Hunter was just a small taste of what’s to come in Peter Parker and Miles Morales’ next adventure. With Venom and many more still in the shadows, Spider-Man 2 is shaping up to be a massive experience.

While PS5 owners have been enjoying this flood of new details, Xbox owners may currently feel left behind. The original Spider-Man was a PlayStation exclusive, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some hope for the wallcrawler to swing his way onto Microsoft’s ecosystem, right? At one point, Far Cry was only on PC and Xbox, and Metal Gear Solid was a PlayStation exclusive, so there’s still hope, no? We have everything you need to know about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Xbox just below.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on Xbox

It’s never good to speak in absolutes when it comes to video games. However, this may be an exception. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will never land on the Xbox ecosystem. It will likely eventually come to PC, but never under the Microsoft branding. And the answer as to why is pretty simple — Insomniac Games is owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Considering how well-received Marvel’s Spider-Man was, it’s a significant blow to Xbox owners that may want to get their hands on the series. This isn’t the first time Spider-Man has been kept from Xbox, either. When the webhead was announced for Marvel’s Avengers, he was a PlayStation exclusive. It was there he stayed until the game’s dying days.

Xbox players can sit in solidarity with PS4 owners, though, as the game isn’t even being developed for Sony’s older hardware.

About Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Picking up after Spider-Man and the Miles Morales spin-off, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 follows the pair as they take on a whole new set of enemies. This time around, Kraven the Hunter comes to New York in search of the ultimate prey, and he’s brought some friends in the shape of a nameless army of minions.

As if that weren’t bad enough, the ominous black sludge introduced in a post-credit scene as the substance healing an ailing Harry Osborn gets out and attaches itself to Parker. If you’re familiar with the black suit storyline, you know this spells trouble for Spider-Man’s reputation and Parker’s relationships. Surely, a rift will form between Parker and his protege at a pivotal moment when Morales needs Parker most.

The end goal of every version of the black suit storyline is to bring Venom into the mix, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is no different. We know that Eddie Brock isn’t Venom, which is an interesting development. This opens up the gate for practically any of Spider-Man’s enemies to don the symbiote, including even Kraven.

We’ll just have to wait and see when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases exclusively for the PS5 on October 20, 2023.
