Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have announced that any players who purchase Marvel’s Avengers on PS4 or Xbox One will be able to receive a free upgrade to the respective PS5 and Xbox Series X versions. No time limit was specified for this program, so it’s assumed that players can make the upgrade whenever they choose to purchase a next-gen console.
In an added bonus, players will be able to carry over their save files and progression across generations, and there will be cross-generation multiplayer for those in the same console family, meaning Xbox One players could play with Xbox Series X players, while PS4 users can be matched with PS5 users.
Square Enix haven’t gone into too many details about what the next-gen versions will specifically entail, though a post on PlayStation Blog has revealed some information regarding the PS5 version specifically. It’ll include an option to switch between an enhanced graphics mode, and an enhanced framerate mode which aims to offer 60fps in dynamic 4K. The PS5’s SSD will also ensure almost instantaneous loading times, along with some other improvements. It’s likely these improvements will be present in the Xbox Series X version as well.
