Enter the Warzone.

Modern Warfare

UPDATE 2: Activision have finally made an official reveal surrounding Warzone, revealing that it’s a 150 player battle royale client that’s free-to-play, and will feature an additional mode called Plunder. Curiously, the mode seems to suggest that the maximum squad size is 3, which would mean up to 50 teams competing at any one time. As for the countdown timer, it’s likely that Warzone will be live around 3pm GMT tomorrow.

UPDATE 1: Since publishing the original news story, Modern Warfare’s in-game Classified tab has begun a countdown timer, with the timer seemingly pointing to a reveal around 3pm GMT tomorrow. Check out the tweet for yourself below.

ORIGINAL POST: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Warzone mode has been leakier than a boat riddled with bullet holes at this point, and they just don’t stop. Today, the YouTuber Chaos uploaded an unlisted video that contained gameplay of the upcoming mode, but the video has since been deleted. Thankfully, VG 24/7 were able to capture a lot of the key details.

Recently, content creators were flown out by Activision to capture footage of the new mode. The video confirmed a lot of the key details that have already been leaked. The mode will be free-to-play, and cross platform with up to 150 players, with support for solo, duos and trios, contradicting a prior leak that suggested Warzone would be squads only.

As for weapons and equipment, all players will spawn with a pistol equipped. There are no weapon attachments, only pre-built weapon blueprints that come in five levels of rarity, along with three levels of armour. Throughout the match, you’ll earn cash which can be spent at Buy Stations, which can be used to purchase killstreaks, loadouts and reviving dead teammates. In order for dead teammates to rejoin the fight, they’ll need to win a 1v1 fight in the Gulag.

The map will also be used for an additional mode, titled Plunder, where players have to collect as much cash as possible, and players will be able to respawn. It’s good to see that Activision are launching Warzone with a plethora of options from the get-go, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Just to further confirm that Warzone is indeed legit, MP1st spotted a host of Twitch ads for Call of Duty Warzone, including a partnership with PlayStation Plus. Like the video, the ads have also been pulled, but expect to seem both again by the end of the day. Will you be playing Warzone when it finally launches? Let us know in the comments.
