It was recently announced that Keri Russell was in negotiations to join the cast of Star Wars Episode IX, but for fans of the franchise, this casting news will be bantha fodder compared to this: Billy Dee Williams will be returning as Lando Calrissian.
Williams will be the oldest returning cast member from the original trilogy at 81 years young, but I’m sure that his return will be one of the more celebrated moments of the next entry in the Star Wars saga.

The Hollywood Reporter got the scoop that Williams had planned on attending a fan convention in the coming weeks, but had to cancel due to a conflict, and with Episode IX set to go before the cameras later this month, that’s a match that many fans are sure to go crazy for. J.J. Abrams will be returning to both the writers and directors’ chairs on Episode IX with Chris Terrio assisting on the script.
Personally, I’m very excited to see what Lando will be up to in the new film, especially with his old buddy Han Solo no longer in the picture. We might have some nice emotional beats for the otherwise suave, cool character. We’ll just have to wait and see. Episode IX will be released in December of 2019.
