Keri Russell In Talks To Join Star Wars Episode IX

Variety is reporting that The Americans star Keri Russell is now in talks to be cast in Star Wars Episode IX. Of course J.J. Abrams and crew will be very tight-lipped on details, so we can only speculate as to whom Russell will be playing, but I’m sure that Rey’s mother will be one of the more discussed possibilities in the rumor mill.

Russell is most famous for playing Elizabeth Jennings in The Americans, which wrapped earlier this year, and while I haven’t seen that show, she did earn two Emmy nominations for Lead Actress in a Drama Series, so she is a talent that Lucasfilm and company would logically go after.

Shooting on Episode IX is reportedly beginning at the end of this month, with J.J. and Argo writer Chris Terrio crafting the screenplay. Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, and Adam Driver are all expected to return, but Russell marks the first new cast member who has not appeared in a previous film in the franchise if she officially gets the part.

We should expect to hear more casting news very soon since we are already more than a week into July. Episode IX is set for release in December of 2019.
