Konami Looks Set To Re-Release MGS 1 & 2 On PC

This must be the work of the La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo.

It would appear that Konami are once again bringing Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance to PC in the near future. The outlet Gematsu found ratings from the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee, along with a rating for Konami Collector’s Series: Castlevania and Contra.

All four of these games have been available on the PC in the past in some form or another. The original Metal Gear launched on the MSX home computer, while MGS 1 and MGS 2: Substance were eventually ported to the PC after their initial release. The Castlevania and Contra collection also launched on PC back in 2002, which contains Castlevania, Castlevania II Simon’s Quest, Castlevania III Dracula’s Curse, Contra and Super Contra.

So Why Would Konami Re-Release These Games?

Because they’re a bit of a bugger to get hold of at the moment, unless you’re a big emulation fan. Currently, all four games are unavailable to buy on PC, and the console offerings aren’t much better. If you happen to own a PS3 with Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection, you’re fine, but that’s going to be a small list of people.

On the Xbox side of things, there’s the Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection (which is also available on PC), that includes Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, MGS 2: Substance, MGS 3: Subsistence and Peace Walker. No such luck on the original MGS. Meanwhile, the Konami Collector’s Series: Castlevania and Contra only launched on PC and hasn’t really been seen since 2002.

When Are These Games Launching?

Considering they’ve been rated by the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee, it would suggest that an announcement/launch isn’t too far off. Expect to see an official word of some kind in the next couple of weeks. Now we just cross our fingers for a full MGS next-gen remake, right?
