The first match for AEW X NJPW’s Forbidden Door event was confirmed on this past week’s episode of Dynamite to be CM Punk vs Hiroshi Tanahashi for the AEW World Championship. Fans were scratching their heads over why Kazuchika Okada wasn’t also confirmed to be headlining the show, but now plans have been revealed which will pit ‘The Rainmaker’ against the former AEW World champ, Adam Page.
Okada/Page could very well be the banger that everyone deserves to see at Forbidden Door, giving Hangman a little bit of momentum following his defeat at Double or Nothing. Presumably, this match would also be for the IWGP World Championship, which would be a huge rub to the former Bullet Club member.
Okada and Page have only ever wrestled once in the past as part of the G1 Climax tournament, so it would be great to see just how far the two have come since 2018 as part of the first-ever cross promotional event.
I suspect AEW/NJPW will confirm this match over the course of the next week.
