JMX Represents Everything Wrong With YouTube, Not PewDiePie

Even if he is supposedly worse than Hitler and Bin Laden combined, PewDiePie is far from being the worst YouTuber making a living on the platform.

That honour belongs to JMX, someone who is, without a doubt, a far more negative influence than a Swedish guy with misjudged, ironic jokes. Although names like PewDiePie could do better, it’s content creators like JMX that should be making the mainstream media sit up and angrily bash out a thousand words while asking us all to think of the children.

Sitting on over two million subscribers, JMX specialises in FIFA videos, half-naked women, and sometimes even both. Actually, let’s not lie here – that’s pretty much his whole thing. Over the years, he’s cultivated a following of teenage boys eager to get their first glimpse at some sideboob. Thanks to YouTube’s inconsistent enforcement of its rules on nudity, JMX is able to make video after video focused on sexual pranks and making girls strip after losing dares.

Whether these girls are being exploited or not is another story for another day, but the fact remains the same: JMX isn’t the advertiser-friendly YouTuber that Google wants, yet here he is, earning a living off of clickbait and sexual content. Almost everything he produces is low-quality trash that invites viewers in (who clearly can’t understand the uses of a search engine) thanks to his bombastic video titles.

Here are some tasters:

Q&A With My Adopted Sister – Are You A Virgin…?

THIS VIDEO HAD TO BE DELETED… (Only Click If Over 18)

THE SEXIEST FIFA 17 TOTY PACK OPENING OF ALL TIME

THE SEXIEST TEAM ON FIFA 17!!!

DON’T TRY THIS UNLESS YOU ARE OVER 18

STRIP FIFA 17 CHALLENGE WITH MY TEACHER… *GONE TOO FAR*

HAVING SEX WITH A YOUTUBERS SISTER PRANK

OMG STRIP FOOTBALL CHALLENGE *GONE TOO FAR*

That last one is currently sitting at 10 million views. Millions of people have been drawn in by capital letters and the promise that what they’re about to see is forbidden (which it should be). The video itself is twenty minutes of nothing with roughly twenty seconds of cringeworthy slow-motion stripping in a cold, windy football park.

It’s not just him, either. I don’t know whether he was the catalyst -and frankly, I am already exhausted enough from being on his channel for a couple of hours to delve much deeper- for similar content that preys on the horny FIFA player, but it’s bewildering just how many similar channels there are with the same USP. Guys like BarryBeePranks, TobbaLink, and Sebastian Fernandez (to name just a few) have all made a living off of implied nudity and jump cuts.

The FUT gambling community is also something that needs to be properly looked at, even if actual money doesn’t always change hands. Many YouTubers have been pulled up for similar enterprises, so when these creators have adverts at the start of their videos that implore viewers to go get some coins, them not receiving similar punishments has to be questioned. When you consider how young the demographic for a lot of FIFA related content is, it gets even worse.

Above all, what rankles most about this disreputable niche on YouTube is how smaller channels with content created with genuine talent and passion go unnoticed by comparison. If you’re dedicating a large part of your life to YouTube and nothing’s sticking, could you resist going down a similar route and producing videos that could be seen as the easy way out?

Making a living on YouTube is harder than ever, thanks to the powers that be’s seemingly endless battles against the people who provide the spine of the platform coupled with an almost unbeatable amount of competition. This is not the way to overcome that. Sex sells, but we all need to stop buying.
