Jeff Kaplan Isn’t Convinced About Overwatch On Nintendo Switch

Overwatch Mercy

Overwatch, one of the biggest games of last year that continues to be just that in 2017, is a phenomenon that doesn’t look dying down. It’s already available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but could it be coming to the Nintendo Switch?

According to game director Jeff Kaplan in a Reddit AMA, it’s quite unlikely as it presents some difficulties:

“Getting Overwatch on the Switch is very challenging for us.

However, as is the norm with these kind of announcements, he did exactly close the door on Overwatch coming to Switch:

“But we’re always open-minded about exploring possible platforms.”

Elsewhere in the comment, Kaplan says that he’s enjoying the Switch and that he’s a Nintendo fan overall.

While Overwatch on Switch cannot be ruled out, Kaplan is right in acknowledging the problems poised by the console. By no means a slouch, the Switch still lags behind its peers in terms of power, and even though Overwatch isn’t extremely demanding to run, the “compression” of the game might be too difficult to balance. There’s no doubt it would be cool to play Overwatch on the bus, though.

Overwatch currently has millions of players and was voted our best multiplayer game of last year, along with a spot on our 50 Best Games of 2016 countdown. If you want to see what all the fuss is about, check out our mini-review below.
