There’s A Howard the Duck Reference In Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Arise, Sir Howard. You have been awoken.

In case you didn’t know, Howard the Duck used to be kind of a big deal. He was the first Marvel character ever to have his own movie and was once one of those most recognisable characters in their universe. Because, you know. He’s a misanthropic duck.

Time hasn’t been all that kind to Howard, however. His movie was a bomb and scared Marvel away from the big screen for many years with him only making fleeting appearances here and there. He was last seen tucked away in a cameo for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and now he’s back in the same property, but this time in Telltale’s video game adaptation.

Although he doesn’t appear in person, going to the terminal in the ship and then into the messages brings up an indignant message from the supreme duck, who’s pissed at Rocket for finagling on money owed from a Poker Night.

There’s even a message from Cosmo, the canine member of the Guardians who was rightly left in the comic books. Mainstream audiences can only handle so much weirdness in one franchise.

Time will only tell if Howard the Duck will ever get his chance in the spotlight again, but if anyone has any sense, he will. If Spider-Man can get nineteen reboots, our feathered overlord can be blessed with at least one.
