Highschool of the Dead

Zombie movies and shows often have an adult, or group of adults, as the main protagonist/s. But, with anime being anime, it was just a matter of time before a bunch of high schoolers took the spotlight. Highschool Of The Dead presents the idea of what would happen to a group of high school students if the zombie apocalypse suddenly erupts while class is in session.

It’s been more than ten years since the cliffhanger that Highschool Of The Dead left the fans with. When will Highschool Of The Dead: Season 2 come out? And why has it taken so long?

When Is Highschool Of The Dead: Season 2 Being Released?

As of today, there has been no news about the production of the second season of Highschool Of The Dead.

The manga author, Daisuke Satō, sadly passed away in 2017, leaving the manga unfinished. The illustrator, Shoji Satō (same last name, but unrelated to Daisuke), has agreed to stop the manga, as he feels that it won’t be right after Daisuke’s passing.

There have been rumors of a US-based studio that’s willing to make a second season. However, with the manga currently on hiatus, the chances of that are very slim.

What Will Highschool Of The Dead: Season 2 Be About?

In the post-credits scene of the first season’s finale, you see the humvee that Takashi and the group rode to escape. It’s broken down now, but the group has managed to make it to the Taiei Shopping Town.

There are three volumes of the manga that haven’t been adapted yet, so fans can see a little more of what happens. Takashi and the others will encounter another group of survivors that’s settled into the mall. The mall seems well-supplied enough, so they decide to stay for a while.

It’s not exactly as great as it sounds though, since the other survivor group is currently in an unstable position. Asami Nakaoka, a policewoman trying to keep the peace in the mall, is struggling to maintain it. So, Takashi and the others try to keep low and plan their leave.

Which Studio Could Make Highschool Of The Dead: Season 2?

Although there has been no confirmation of a second season, if there ever will be, the teams in charge of the first season will likely make the second too. The first season’s co-producers are Geneon Universal Entertainment, AT-X, and Showgate. Madhouse is the studio that animated the first season, so they might animate the second one as well.

Geneon Universal Entertainment has produced several classic anime like Hellsing Ultimate and Kaichou Wa Maid-Sama!

AT-X has produced anime since 2000. Some of their works include Steins;Gate and Re:Zero.

Showgate started up in 2003 and has produced dozens of anime including Food Wars! and Code Geass.

Madhouse has been in the animation business since 1972 and has animated One Punch Man, Death Note, and Hajime no Ippo.
