In a Q&A with PlayStation Blog, the new Head of PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios, Hermen Hulst, has confirmed that the previously PS4 exclusive will be coming to PC this summer; no details on Steam, Epic Games Store, or both yet.

Speaking about the long-rumoured port, Hulst confirmed that it’s happening with PC players soon able to play the Complete Edition version of the game, which includes the Frozen Wilds DLC:

Yes, I can confirm that Horizon Zero Dawn is coming to PC this summer…. There will be more information coming from Guerrilla, from the new studio directors [Michiel van der Leeuw, JB van Beek, and Angie Smets] pretty soon.

Hulst was quick to mention, however, that this shouldn’t be expected as a regular thing, more so as an experiment to open up the PlayStation brand even more:

“I think it’s important that we stay open to new ideas of how to introduce more people to PlayStation, and show people maybe what they’ve been missing out on.

“And to maybe put a few minds at ease, releasing one first-party AAA title to PC doesn’t necessarily mean that every game now will come to PC. In my mind, Horizon Zero Dawn was just a great fit in this particular instance.”

The rest of the interview is well worth a read, going into a bit more detail on the recently established PlayStation Productions, as well as Hulst’s thoughts on Dreams. Next to no news on the PlayStation 5, though Hulst did say “honestly, I can’t wait to talk to you in more detail about that” when asked about the upcoming console.

This isn’t the first PlayStation property to make its way to PC, of course. Ready Set Heroes came to the Epic Games Store in 2019, and Death Stranding is coming too, though this time with 505 Games as the publisher. It’s also worth remembering that PlayStation Now allows PS4 and PS3 streaming on PC.

Still, Horizon Zero Dawn is a pretty big IP to drop its exclusivity, especially with Guerrilla Games being a first-party studio. I don’t think anyone should expect a port of The Last of Us anytime soon, but this definitely opens the market up a lot more. With Xbox keen to allow more and more players to experience their games with Switch and Steam ports aplenty, it looks like Sony is also dabbling with more platform freedom — and that can only be good for everyone.

Well, maybe it’s not good for us — we will miss the traffic on this list.

UPDATE: the Steam page for the game is now live.
