Halo Infinite’s campaign offers a brand new take on the long-running sci-fi shooter. Instead of blasting your way through linear levels, you’re exploring a fully fledged open world filled with activities and collectibles to discover. Like most open world games, that also comes with skills that you can upgrade as you progress through the game.

Here’s everything you need to know about skills in Halo Infinite and how to upgrade them.

Halo Infinite Skills

For those who have already invested a lot of time into Halo Infinite’s multiplayer, you should already be familiar with four out of the five upgradeable skills as they appear as equipment across different multiplayer maps. Those skills are Grappleshot (the new grappling hook), Threat Sensor (a recon dart that reveals enemies in a set radius), Drop Wall (a deployable shield) and Thrusters (the dodge mechanic from Halo 5, essentially). The fifth skill is a passive ability called Shield Core, which upgrades your maximum shield capacity.

How To Unlock New Skills In Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite starts with Master Chief already in possession of the Grappleshot, meaning you can zip around to your heart’s content from the get go. However, the other four skills are found while making progress through the game’s story missions. Don’t worry, you can’t miss any of them, but you certainly can miss upgrading them if you decide to skip all the side content and make a beeline for the end credits.

How To Upgrade Skills In Halo Infinite

In order to upgrade your skills, you’ll need Spartan Cores, which can be found in green UNSC crates scattered around the map. You can use your environmental scan to find them within a certain radius of you, and they’ll show up as gold when you look at them, though they’ll also make noise when you’re close to them too. Some cores can be found close to main objectives and missions, while others are scattered around the map, their locations revealed when you liberate a nearby FOB.

With five different trees of skills to upgrade, it can be hard to know which skills are worth investing in, especially as later upgrades require more Spartan Cores. Fortunately, we’ve put together an additional guide regarding what skills are most worth upgrading.

Halo Infinite is available on PC, Xbox Series X | S, and Xbox One.
